Do You Know What to Expect? Which One Is Right for Your Pet?
OK, I admit it. The first 5 or 6 times I heard about "Doggie Day Care," I rolled my eyes and said, "What's this world coming to?" After getting a Labrador Retriever from a family with a too-small yard, I have a new respect for what these folks offer.
Our daughter saw an ad for a lab at her local pet store. After finding that Richard (my husband and her father) wanted the dog, she started the process of getting the pet. We had never heard "high strung" and "lab" in the same sentence before and we really started to worry!
Cutting to the chase: Andrea (daughter) brought a beautiful 2 - 3 year old lab home. He literally bounced off the walls of the car (even though he was firmly secured in his seat). After releasing him into her back yard, he chased and showed his "high energy" quotient for the rest of the day. She and her husband were afraid there would be no yard left if they left "Jake" at home to his own devices.
Jake went to a "Doggie Day Care" facility each day until we could come the 250 miles to pick him up. It was the best money we could have spent! They worked on his boundless energy and put him through his paces. By the end of the day, Jake was ready to rest -- and Andrea still had her back yard!
The real problem was that Jake needed a very large yard and plenty of exercise. He had an enormous amount of pent up energy -- with no place to use it.
No one who saw Jake when he first arrived can now believe we have the same pet! He's not "high strung," he's "high energy."
